Princess Izabela Lubomirska, née Czartoryska (1736-1816).

Part of the collection: Painting and drawing

Popularization note

The portrait shows Princess Izabela Lubomirska, née Czartoryska, wife of Prince Stanisław Lubomirski, the Grand Marshal of the Crown, the owner of Łańcut, initiator of changing the character of the castle into a magnate palace, who lived in the years 1736-1816.

Oil on canvas painting of an elderly portrait of the Princess. She is portrayed with a characteristic serious look, shown in a waist-length and a slight turn of the body to the right (en trois quarts). The face is strongly emphasized with a powder with a pink shade. Princess is sitting on a chair, dressed in a high-waisted white and grey Empire dress, her shoulders covered with a red scarf decorated with stripe patterns. Similar characteristic cashmere scarves were a fashionable and valuable accessory of the outfit at that time. The head is decorated with a colour-matched bonnet with a dark blue ribbon and bows.

There is a miniature by Carl Hummel, which was probably the prototype of this portrait. The portrait of the unknown painter was created around 1816.
