The artwork titled "Guard of the Famous Polish Lancers" depicts, in the foreground, a recumbent soldier and, further back, his comrades, a group of lancers. Lancers were light cavalry armed with lances, alternatively, this cavalry formation, particularly in the Polish army, was also called uhlans. The author of this illustration is the French artist Horace Vernet, and it was made in 1818. The dimensions of the artwork are: passepartout height 85 cm, passepartout width 110 cm, height of the artwork itself 55.5 cm, and width 86 cm.
