Two gardeners

Part of the collection: ceramics

Popularization note

Pair of gardeners A bisque figural group portraying a pastoral scene: a half-lying girl with a kerchief full of flowers and a boy sitting on a tree trunk next to her. The figures are caught in motion. The girl, surprised by the sight of the suddenly appearing boy, is shielding her face with her hand; the boy is staring at her and, with his right hand, pointing at the bouquet of flowers he is holding in his left. They are both dressed in period clothing. The girl is wearing a dress with a neckline and a kerchief tied around her head; she is covered with drapery. The boy is wearing a jacket, knee-length trousers, and a hat on his head. The base imitates the ground. The group is placed in a rectangular display case with glass walls enclosed in brown frames, with a wooden platform painted brown and decorated with classicist bronze ornaments. The bisque was made in the Sèvres porcelain factory, famous for its bisque pottery production, mainly figurines distinguished by their great artistic features. The bisque was created in the third quarter of the 18th c., according to the design of François Boucher. It comes from the collection of Princess Izabela Lubomirska (1736-1816), the owner of the Łańcut Castle.
