Part of the collection: Szczecin souvenirs
A porcelain cup, decorated with the Szczecin coat of arms, was sold as a souvenir to tourists visiting the city before the Second World War. The receptacle was made by a manufactory established in 1904 in Marktredwitz, Germany, on the initiative of Fritz Thomas and his partner. Until 1908, the company operated under the name Porzellanfabrik Thomas & Ens. However, when Thomas pulled out of the company the brand was taken over by the Rosenthal Group. Production in Marktredwitz continued until 1960, and then was relocated to Speichersdorf near Kulm. Over the years, the Thomas brand was associated with excellent quality of household porcelain. The high quality of the porcelain products made with great attention to detail made them extremely popular both in Germany and internationally. Today, they remain an object of desire for many collectors. The fragility of the material from which the cup was made, and the fact that it has been preserved unchanged to this day, contribute to its value and uniqueness. Anna Lew-Machniak
