Part of the collection: Memorabilia of Emilia Leibel née Grossbart
The group photograph of children and teachers of the Polish School in Kozmodemyansk, taken in 1945 or 1946. There are 21 people of various ages (including children from about 9 years old to teenagers), photographed against a typical office background (representation of a forest). This is the school year 1945/46 - as we read on the card held by the girls in the bottom row.
Emilia Leibel is sitting second from the right in the second row; her daughter, Halina Leibelówna, is sitting on her left.
Emilia Leibel recalled: I was a teacher of the first, second, third, fourth grades in one room, and in the other room there was this Mrs Ajdukiewicz [...] She taught the fifth, sixth, seventh [...] we taught absolutely from memory [...] I praise my teacher from primary school [...] who taught us history and geography in such a way that [...] I had the whole map of Poland in my eyes (Maria Kłańska's river interview Wspomnienia Żydówki krakowskiej (Memories of a Jewish Woman from Kraków), Kraków 2010, pp. 161-162).
