Description:
The bathroom is located in the northern wing on the second floor of the castle. The ceiling of the rectangular room is lowered in relation to the ceiling in the adjacent bedroom. In the northern wall there is one square double-sash window with a segmental arch at the top, covering almost the entire width of the room. On the northern wall and in the window recess there is painted paneling with panel divisions, the same as in the adjacent bedroom, but without Rococo ornaments. A part of the western and eastern walls is covered with plinth paneling with panels in the shape of a lying rectangle. The double-leaf panelled door leading to the bedroom is decorated and painted similarly to the paneling. On the western and eastern wall, above the paneling, there is original pink moire acquired from the bedroom during the last renovation. The entire southern wall and parts of the eastern and western walls are covered with cream and yellow ceramic tiles, with a decorative cornice made of tiles at the top. In the southern part of the bathroom there can be found sanitary equipment from the time of the last reconstruction, namely a bidet and a bathtub. The porcelain bathtub is decorated with a wreath motif which is repeated on the tiles above. On the eastern wall there is a large mirror which covers the entire height of the bathroom. A flat ceiling with rounded corners is framed with a decorative strip. The floor is made of oak wood arranged in a herringbone pattern. At the end of the 18th century, the bathroom with the adjoining rooms was part of the Gabard’s Suite. From 1807, it was part of the Younger Couple's Suite. Based on the registries from 1854-1855 and 1862, it can be presumed that this room served as the Chancery or a dressing room of Count Alfred II. The ceiling in the bathroom which is lowered in relation to the bedroom allows us to assume that it was the original height of all rooms before their heightening during the last reconstruction carried out during the time when the owners of the castle were Roman and Elżbieta Potocki. At that time, there were built several bathrooms, including this one, equipped with sanitary equipment by the London-Viennese company Gramlick. The room was transformed into a bathroom ca. 1890, when the walls were covered with decorative tiles and the mirror and sanitary equipment were installed; the moire covering the walls also comes from that period.
